Ghana Ranks 3rd in World Giving Report 2025

Ghana Ranks 3rd in World Giving Report-2025. The Charities Aid Foundation’s World Giving
report offers a unique insight into global trends in generosity. It enables us to understand where
people are most likely to engage in social activities for the benefit of their communities and to
champion the growth of global giving.
As a leading charity operating in the UK, US and Canada, the foundation works at the centre of
the giving world, distributing over £1 billion to social purpose organisations around the globe. The
World Giving Report represents a global collaboration covers a survey over 55,000 people across
101 countries, that enables us to understand our country’s giving landscape in more detail, as well
as how we compare internationally. People in Nigeria reported giving an average of 2.83% of their
personal income in 2024. This included to charities, to religious organisations, and directly to
people in need. Egypt, Ghana, China and Kenya complete the top five most generous countries.
As an international partner of CAF, the Ghana Philanthropy Forum plays collaborative roles in
supporting important global survey on generosity and civic giving. This year’s report highlights a
historic moment for Ghana, our nation ranks 3rd in the world for charitable giving, a powerful
reflection of our people’s deep-rooted culture of solidarity and compassion.
The report is based on data gathered from a nationwide survey assessing key indicators such as
helping strangers, donating money, volunteering time etc. Ghana’s remarkable position reaffirms
the strength of our civic values and the vibrancy of our local philanthropic spirit.
Stakeholders, civil society, policymakers, development partners, and citizens to explore the
findings of the report, celebrate this milestone, and continue investing in the growth of
philanthropy in Ghana and across Africa.
Dr. Ben Ocra, a lecturer and president of the Ghana Philanthropy Forum, advises regulators and
stakeholders to ensure that regulations for philanthropic actors balance oversight with the need for
operational flexibility to avoid hindering their vital work. He added that, excessive or poorly
designed regulations can stifle their efforts by creating bureaucratic hurdles, limiting access to
funding, or restricting their ability to advocate for change.
